Vietjet Thailand has announced plans to launch its first in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, powered by Bluebox Aviation Systems’ (Bluebox) Blueview platform. Beginning in the third quarter of 2025, the airline will introduce Blueview IFE across its narrow-body Airbus fleet. The service will deliver movies, TV, music, retail and more directly to passengers’ personal devices.

Vietjet Thailand Charts Growth with Blueview-Powered IFE Rollout

Founded in 2014, Vietjet Thailand is the Thai subsidiary of Vietnam’s popular Vietjet brand, and has spent the last decade building a strong position in the low-cost carrier market. The introduction of IFE marks an important step in its growth strategy – as the airline expands its fleet and launches longer international routes, entertainment will make flights more comfortable and convenient.

The carrier is working closely with Bluebox to ensure a seamless rollout across its entire fleet, which comprises of 18 Airbus aircraft (including 12 A320-200s and six A321-200s), with the launch set for the third quarter of 2025. Furthermore, Vietjet Thailand plans to expand the IFE service to its incoming 737 MAX 8 fleet to maintain a consistent experience. It is set to receive 50 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft allocated from Vietjet’s existing order of 200 MAX aircraft. Deliveries are set to begin in October 2025.

Powered by Bluebox Wow, a portable wireless server, Blueview will offer passengers access to a library of interactive content, movies, TV shows, music and a moving map via a browser on their personal electronic devices. Equipped with secure payment processing and compatible with existing crew and passenger apps, it will enable Vietjet Thailand to generate ancillary revenue through onboard retail, content sales and advertising.

The advertising element of the service is being provided by the airline’s regional advertising partner Bright Sky Media.

Vietjet Thailand VP Commercial and Customer Service Pinyot Pibulsonggram explained, “We are always looking for innovative ways to delight our customers and add value while retaining our low-cost service. Adding this superb capability from Bluebox across our fleet will ensure every customer experiences even more benefits of travelling with Vietjet Thailand.

“Bluebox’s dedication to innovation aligns perfectly with our own vision, and we’re pleased to collaborate with them, along with Bright Sky Media, to bring an even richer onboard experience to our customers,” he continued.

Budget Airlines Prove Low-Cost Doesn’t Mean Low-Tech

Vietjet Thailand is not alone in recognizing the value of portable IFE, especially for budget carriers. For example, in February 2024 low-cost carrier AirJapan deployed Blueview across its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. Additionally, Australian low-cost carrier Jetstar uses Blueview across its Airbus fleet.

Bluebox CEO Kevin Clark noted, “With its flexibility, Blueview is […] designed to grow in line with the evolution of an airline’s digital strategy.  We’re constantly evolving and enhancing Blueview from project to project, making every deployment unique.”

Vietjet Thailand’s Blueview rollout is more than just delivering content; it is about redefining value in air travel, proving that a low-cost carrier can still offer high-quality service and digital convenience.
